What Mama Made Monday: DIY Toddler Actvity Table Tutorial

   In case you missed it when I posted this tutorial on the Expression Vinyl and 36th Avenue blogs, here is how I made Gavin and Dylan's new activity table.

My 2 year old is constantly climbing on our nice end tables {well, they were nice before dogs and kids}, so today I am going to show you how I turned an $8 Ikea side table into this toddler activity table.  Hours of budget friendly fun for everyone!

And away we go!!!

Supplies: $8 Ikea side table and Expressions Indoor Vinyl {I used indoor so that I could easily remove it and add new activities as my sons grow}

I used the Silhouette Studio to design the table decals.  I measured the actual table and then set the page measurements accordingly.  The Cameo only cuts 12 inches wide and the table is 21 inches wide so I after I got the colors and sizes just how I wanted them, I copied and pasted all the decals on a page for each color.  Here is what that looked like:

 TIP:  You will notice that there are red lines outlining each of the decals. I just made a square or circle around each item.  This will help make weeding the unwanted vinyl much easier!

 When you finish cutting, weeding, applying transfer tape and cutting each decal out they will look like this.  Time to assemble!

I applied the black dividing lines so I could get the individual sections spaced evenly, then I laid out the rest of the decals and just started applying.

TIP: If you get air bubbles under your vinyl, take a straight pin and poke a little hole then use your squeegee to work the air out...you won't even see the little pin hole and your air bubbles will magically be gone!  Wha la!

*note: I used the Expressions Dry Erase Vinyl under the Tic-Tac-Toe grid so we could play over and over again.

There you have it friends, easy as pie or cake or ice cream.  Dang, now I need a midnight snack!  No little Mr.'s running around your house?  How about a princess themed table for your little Miss?!  For just $8 the possibilities are endless!

  12. So cute. What a nice idea to make a games table. I used an old IKEA table to make a tea party table for my daughter, but I never thought of making one for games!

  13. Hi - Maybe I am the only person here who is not that crafty - but is this software you used something you need to purchase? Aslo the vinyl - how did you print onto it and cut it? Do you need special equipment for this?

    Thanks!

    1. I used a cutting machine called the Silhouette that comes with a program to use on your computer. I designed the layout on that program and the computer tells the machine what to cut out. Each color is cut from a colored piece of vinyl so no printing, just cutting. hope that helps Blake.
