Application To Date My Daughter

My go to blog read Ashley from Lil Blue Boo did some posts this week about contracts she made with her parents.  For some reason, the memory of my first date came to mind and I just wanted to share this with you all.  I'm sure parents of daughters can relate.

I am the youngest of 5 children and the only girl. Did that take you second to do your calculations?  Let me help you out...I was the little princess.  Naturally when said little princess was allowed to date at the age of 16, my father decided to have some fun with it.  The requirement to date Glenn Kerr's daughter was:
#1 You had to fill out a 1 page application
#2 You had to survive a 45 minute interview with Glenn himself.

He may have been cleaning his guns and knives during the interview of my first date.  It's a good thing they both liked fishing or I may be a crazy cat lady living alone in a trailer park.  Thanks for taking one for the team Jason.  I'll have Lennie send you a thank you note.

I made a printable so that you can utilize it when the time comes for your own little princess to start the dating process.  Enjoy!

  3. Well put Summer. I really did like Jason, even though his interview was almost 2 hours. And I WAS cleaning my guns when he came over. Poor timing on his part.

It was important to me for those boys to understand how much I loved you and wanted you safely home and ON TIME.

    1. my dad was cleaning his guns when my bf (now husband) came over for the first time. we were 17. when my dad passed away last year, at the luncheon following his funeral, my husband (of only 3 days at the time!) stood up and told everyone the story of when he met his father-in-law. we even have a picture of him cleaning his guns in the living room :) my dad was so very protective of us and who we would date. there are 3 of us daughters. he would have LOVED this application!

  6. Personally I'm a bit offended by the question about "Do you have one male and one female parent" - Who cares if your daughter's date has two mommies or two daddies? Or what is it to you if he was raised by single mother or father? My sister is a single mom to her kids - her husband died - so you wouldn't let your daughter date her son because of that?

    1. Dear Anonymous,

Please accept my apology if you were offended. I was not the author of this application, it has been circulating through the internet for over 15 years. I hoped that those who read it would understand that the tone of the application was just for fun. My heart goes out to single parent families as parenting is hard enough with a partner. I don't know if I could do it on my own.

  11. My husband had been holding on to the application for the last 15 years or so. One of our daugters (we have 3) began dating this March and he thought it the opportune time to give it to the young man. Our daughter was mortified, but J found it hilarious. He completed it, returned it and needless to say, they are getting married 4/6/2013. On the flipside, his friends made one up for her 3 times the length...she passed their application process too!
